Installing Virtual Box

Virtual box is software that lets you create, run and manage virtual machines. This means you can run as many "virtual computers" on your computer as you like (given the limitations of RAM, processing speed, and disk speed).

Using Portable-Virtual Box

Our IT staff has created a special setup of the Oracle Virtual Box software that is already setup and ready to run an instance of the OSGeoLive suite. All you need to do to use this version of VirtualBox is:

1. Copy the contents of "G:\OSgeo-dev" to your local computer or USB device.
2. Run the "Portable-VirtualBox.exe" program in the "Portable-VirtualBox" folder

Install the Oracle Virtual Box Software

This should only be required if you want to run VirtualBox with mulitple virtual machines or with virtual machines other than the OSGeoLive suite.

1. Run the installer
2. Click next three times
3. When asked about network translation, make sure you are not currently downloading any files and click “Do ne”
4. Click “Install”
5. You may need to switch to click in a dialog to allow the installation to begin
6. Click “Install” again (a few times)
7. Click “Finish”
